CHICAGO, IL -- A 26-year-old man has died following a shooting and rollover crash late Thursday in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood, according to WGN9.
The events first unfolded in the 100 block of East 86th Street, near Jane A. Neil School, shortly before 12:00 a.m.
Chicago Police said the man and an eight-year-old boy were sitting inside a parked vehicle in the area when three unknown suspects shot at him. Preliminary details indicate the man tried to drive away but his vehicle overturned as it crashed into an unoccupied car in the 8300 block of South State Street.
At one point during the incident, the three unknown individuals fled eastbound in an unspecified black sedan.
First responders rushed the victim to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. He was pronounced deceased shortly after, confirmed officials.
The eight-year-old boy, who did not sustain any significant injuries, was taken to Comer Children's Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
As of this writing, authorities have not identified or located any of the involved suspects. An investigation remains ongoing.
