LAKE COUNTY, IL – A 60-year-old man from Wisconsin died following a motorcycle collision Saturday afternoon in unincorporated Antioch, north of Chicago, reports WGN9.
Local officials said the accident occurred at the corner of North Lake Avenue and Hillcrest Avenue on September 9, at about 2:20 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that the victim, Mark Basil, a resident of Salem, Wisconsin, was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Lake Avenue. As Basil neared the intersection, a 29-year-old Antioch woman in a Volkswagen Tiguan entered his path as it turned left onto Hillcrest Avenue. Authorities said the motorcyclist was unable to dodge the Volkswagen and the vehicles collided.
First responders transported both Basil and the female driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, to an area hospital.
Though Basil’s injuries were initially believed to be non-life-threatening, he was pronounced deceased on Sunday, the day after, confirmed officials. The coroner’s office cited blunt force injuries suffered in the crash as his cause of death.
