A Minooka man, who struck an Illinois state trooper involved in a traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Kendall County, was sentenced to three years in prison for leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury.
The defendant was driving at a high rate of speed when he caused the accident at the Ridge Road exit ramp off of Interstate 80. He then fled the scene, leaving the trooper with multiple fractures. Based upon the video footage from the squad car, it is a miracle that this was not a fatal accident.
The defendant did not report the car accident and several days later, he moved the vehicle to a parking lot on the west side of Chicago. Investigators knew the make and model of the vehicle from debris left at the scene and were following up leads as to the whereabouts of the vehicle.
Investigators learned the identity of one of the passengers, who was able to identify the defendant as the driver of the vehicle. When confronted by state police, the defendant initially denied his involvement, but later admitted he was the driver and led investigators to the vehicle.
