WILMINGTON, IL - A collision caused by a wrong-way driver on I-55 in Wilmington left two people dead and four others, including three children, injured Tuesday night.

According to WGN, the crash took place at about 9:50 p.m. when a black Ford F-150 heading north in the southbound lanes of the interstate collided with a southbound GMC Yukon near Lorenzo Road. The GMC was then hit by a tractor-trailer that was following behind.

Both adults riding in the front of the GMC suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Their identities are unclear at this time. Three juveniles in the vehicle were also hospitalized with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The Ford's driver also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe impairment played a role in the deadly crash. However, it is unclear whether the driver of the Ford has been charged at this time.
