CHICAGO, IL -- Two people injured Sunday morning when their car was hit by another vehicle and overturned on Interstate 290 in Chicago's Garfield Park area, reports CBS News Chicago

The collision took place on the outbound lanes of I-290 (Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway) at Central Park Avenue, at about 1:30 a.m. Illinois State Police troopers arrived on the scene shortly after.

According to officials, two cars were traveling westbound when one of the cars veered to the left and hit the other. The impact of the crash sent the struck car off the roadway, causing it to collide with a median and overturn.

The causing driver continued away from the scene without stopping to render aid.

Paramedics transported both the driver and passenger of the flipped vehicle to an area hospital for minor injuries.

The incident and emergency response had all outbound traffic reduced to a single lane near Exit 26A to Independence Boulevard.

No information on the hit-and-run driver or suspect vehicle has been released at this time.
