CHICAGO, IL -- A 63-year-old woman was injured Wednesday morning when a school bus struck another vehicle and slammed into a home in Chicago's Portage Park area, reports NBC Chicago.
The accident happened in the 6000 block of West Waveland Avenue, about two blocks south of Ole A. Thorp Elementary Scholastic Academy. Chicago Police responded to the scene shortly after 8:20 a.m.
While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, officials say a 62-year-old man was driving the school bus on Waveland Avenue when the vehicle hit a parked car and a utility pole before crashing into the residence.
A 63-year-old female passenger who suffered unspecified injuries was transported to a local hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. It was unclear whether the woman was on board the bus or a passenger in the parked car.
No other major injuries were reported, but at least one resident of the impacted home was displaced.
Photos and footage captured at the scene show significant damage to both the bus and the house.
Authorities did not immediately report any citations following the event.
