CHICAGO, IL - A collision involving a semi-truck near the UIC campus on Friday morning left two people seriously injured. 

According to WLS, a passenger vehicle collided with the semi-truck in the southbound lanes of the interstate near the Taylor Street overpass at about 1:15 a.m. 

The impact of the crash resulted in the complete ejection of the vehicle's driver, while a passenger was partially ejected. Both individuals sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to an area hospital for treatment. 

The driver of the semi was unhurt. 

Major traffic delays were reported in the area for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene. All southbound lanes reopened by 7 a.m.
