CHICAGO, IL -- A 29-year-old man who died after an ATV accident Tuesday evening on Chicago's Far North Side has been identified as an off-duty CPD officer, reports WGN9.
The Chicago Police Department said the wreck occurred on the 2500 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, in the city's Arcadia Terrace neighborhood, at about 5:45 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that the man was operating an all-terrain vehicle eastbound on Bryn Mawr Avenue. As an SUV prepared to make a left turn ahead, the ATV operator tried to overtake it but instead caused the ATV to strike the vehicle.
First responders rushed the ATV operator to St. Francis Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. The man, who later succumbed to his injuries, has since been identified as Raheem Mills. CPD officials confirm he was an off-duty officer.
No other injuries were reported in the event, and no further details have been made available. The CPD's Major Accidents Unit continues to investigate the accident.
