CHICAGO, IL -- A 69-year-old woman was fatally injured late Tuesday night when she was hit by a vehicle in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, according to CBS News Chicago.
Chicago Police said the incident occurred in the 5100 block of North Broadway, shortly after 10:30 p.m.
An early investigation shows that the woman was on foot and crossing the road using a designated crosswalk when she was hit by a black sedan. The driver fled the area before authorities arrived.
A witness told authorities the striking vehicle did not appear to have its brake lights activated when it swerved and struck the female pedestrian, who was thrown in the air by the impact.
First responders rushed the victim to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
An investigation remains open and ongoing.
