DUPAGE COUNTY, IL -- A 14-year-old boy has died after a Jeep crashed into a Hinsdale sub shop Monday afternoon, leaving multiple people seriously injured, reports CBS News.
The crash happened at Fontano's Subs and Deli, located at 9 South Lincoln Street on the western side of the suburb. It was first reported shortly after 2:30 p.m.
An account from Fontano's Subs owner Dominic Fontano indicates the boy was at Fuller's Car Wash when an out-of-control Jeep hit and carried the victim across the street before crashing into the sub shop.
The teen pedestrian was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Late Thursday night, officials confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries.
Three customers at the sub shop who were either hit by the car or debris were also transported to a hospital, where they were listed in serious condition. One other customer received treatment for more minor injuries at the scene and was released.
Authorities said the Jeep driver was not reported hurt in the incident. No pending charges have been reported as of this writing, as an investigation into the cause of the accident remains underway.
